SLEDDING WITH TIGERS - “BEING NICE IS STILL COOL”
I’ve known Dan Faughnder for quite some time now, and one of the many great things I can say about him is that he is an astoundingly charismatic character. As the captain for the folk-punk misfits SLEDDING WITH TIGERS, Faughnder runs a tight, happy ship. Consisting of violinist and vocalist Samantha Juneman, banjo-wizard Robert Martin and mandolin master Taylor Brough, Sledding With Tigers shreds through eight heartwarming tunes on their newest EP, “BEING NICE IS STILL COOL”. I can say with the strongest conviction, this is how music should sound. My ears haven’t been this happy in a long time.
“BEING NICE IS STILL COOL” is an amazing collection of songs, and nothing short of brilliant. Twangy fuzzed out guitars and bass run rampant through the jagged acoustic guitar strumming in perfect harmony on top of Faughnder’s fervent cries of joy and friendship. Although the general feel of the album is of a jovial inspiring tone, Faughnder adapts an apologetic manner in some tunes (“A Floppy Disc Worth Of A Song”) and gets a little lonely (“Homeless”), but eventually finds comfort in the knowledge of hope and companionship.
Very remniscent of bands such as the MOUNTAIN GOATS, ANDREW JACKSON JIHAD, and maybe even CEREMONY, Faughnder’s hooks will have you singing along in no time. Everyone is welcome here.
